Start of trail:
The Longdendale Trail is situated in the Upper Longdendale Valley, within the Peak District National Park - south of the A628 and north of the town of Glossop.

Description
   1. Leave the car park and turn right through the village down the hill and up the other side into Tintwistle.

   2.Turn right up the main road but bear immediately left and follow the lane up through the village to rejoin the main road near the top of the hill and turn left.

   3. After 200 yards bear left onto a dirt track and follow it through a farm and keep following it until it finally joins a stony track down to the main road again.

   4. Cross this diagonally and down to the dam. Just before the dam go through a gate and follow the track to the next gate and turn right across the dam and up to a road junction.

   5. Cross over and join the Longdendale Trail and follow it to the end at the old Woodhead tunnels and turn up the steep road right joining the main road at the top and turning right. (If it is a hot day you can swim in the river on your right here.)

   6. Continue up the main road for a mile and a bridleway doubles back left. Follow this for 2 miles leading down to the main road. Turn right and follow it for a mile to the first road left, over the dam and rejoin the Longdendale Trail to the right and follow it back until it ends at the car park where you started.

The trail description would make sense if the Start Point was actually mentioned rather than hinted at :-)
